Bodle Technologies has featured in the Société Suisse de Chronométrie’s (SSC) biannual Bulletin, number 92, published on the 6th December 2021.
Publishing the Paper: Personalisation of watch components using a novel, switchable PVD coating, Bodle Technologies presents the company’s novel and extremely versatile switchable colour technology. The paper demonstrates how the PCN-based thin-films (<10 nanometre) have the potential to create an entirely new paradigm of smart decorative coatings available to watch designers.
The Switchable PVD coating is capable of displaying extremely high-quality colours, with near-zero angle dependence on any substrate. More importantly, the coating can be reversibly switched between two or more colours by means of a standard pulsed laser system and without the need for contact energy (batteries, electronics, etc) to maintain a specific colour state. The versatility of this novel non-ink, non-patterning, non-destructive technique is offered as an entirely new paradigm for the creation and mass-customization of extraordinary watch components, capable of being produced in-factory and in-store.
The SSC aims to showcase the know-how of all professions in the watchmaking industry. The SSC constitutes a real platform for information sharing and valorisation of knowledge in a world where innovation is vital. The Bulletin is published twice yearly presenting a review of the Society’s activities, as well as articles of a technical, industrial, historical and educational nature.
